Flowers are not just beautiful – they are key to biodiversity and are essential to the health of the ecosystem. Flowers produce nectar and pollen, which insects feed on. They help maintain a stable food web for birds, bees and butterflies and play a central role in pollination and plant growth. Without flowers, we would lose many plant species and the animals that depend on them. The fragility of biodiversity is a topic I often reflect on in my paintings.
That's why I sometimes also paint paintings with birds or insects. In several of my flower paintings you will therefore also find insects, such as bees, butterflies and ants. It is no coincidence - these small creatures are vital to our ecosystem. Bees are nature's most important pollinators and ensure that plants and crops can reproduce. Butterflies are indicators of a healthy environment and also contribute to pollination and ants, for example, have an important role in the earth's ecosystem, as they help break down organic matter and spread seeds.
When I include these insects in my paintings, it is to emphasize their importance and vulnerability. We depend on them to thrive, but climate change, pesticides, and habitat destruction have made many pollinators endangered.
Flower paintings
– a tribute to the harmony of nature
When I paint flowers, I often work with soft, natural colors and organic shapes that provide a sensual experience of the tranquility of nature. I want my works to give a sense of connection with nature, while reminding us of its vulnerability. A flower painting is therefore more than just a beautiful decoration – it is a story about life, ecology and our role in protecting the balance of nature.
Flowers have had profound meanings in art and culture for centuries. They can symbolize life and renewal, as flowers are connected to the cycle of nature and mark the transition between seasons. Flowers also represent beauty and fragility. Many artists have used flowers throughout history as a symbol of the transience of life, especially in Baroque still lifes. Flowers are often used to express emotions such as love, joy or sadness. Each type of flower has its own symbolism – for example, roses stand for love, while lilies are associated with purity. In Eastern art, flowers often represent balance, inner peace and spiritual enlightenment.
In my flower paintings, I not only want to depict their aesthetic beauty, but also to awaken an awareness of the fragile balance of nature.
Flowers in art
– beauty, symbolism and the balance of nature
Flowers have been one of the most beloved motifs in art throughout history. They symbolize life, growth, beauty and transience, but they are also much more than decorative elements. Flowers are a vital part of nature's ecosystem, and in my paintings I use them as a visual language to tell stories about the connection between nature and humans. I have flowers both in my paintings for sale and on my hand-painted vases .
I also have a whole series of botanical posters filled with flowers.
I also paint murals with flowers. See more about my murals here
