Wall mural in the stairwell – create a homely and unique environment in the housing association

When entering a stairwell in a housing association, white walls are often the first thing one encounters. They appear neutral but can also feel anonymous and cold. Therefore, several owner associations and co-operative housing associations are beginning to explore how art can help create a more inviting environment for residents – and at the same time strengthen the sense of community and identity in the property.

A mural in the stairwell is a solution that can transform the experience of coming home. It gives residents a unique and personal welcome every day and can uplift the atmosphere.

Mural in an owner association in Frederiksberg

In Frederiksberg, I recently decorated a stairwell in an owner association. The desire was to make the white and neutral stairwell more cozy and homely with elements from Frederiksberg.

I created a mural where nature moves indoors: plants, flowers, birds, and butterflies unfold on the walls. The result was a stairwell that feels brighter, more vibrant, and much more personal. Residents didn't just get a work of art – they got a stairwell that now feels like a welcome to their home.

Why choose art in the stairwell?

For owner associations and co-operative housing associations, a mural can be more than just decoration:

  • Cozy atmosphere – art breaks up the white walls and creates warmth and homeliness.

  • Unique expression – no two stairwells are alike, and residents get a distinctive environment they can identify with.

  • Strengthened community – a work of art in common areas gives residents a shared reference and something to be proud of.

  • Long-lasting investment – murals are durable, require no maintenance, and cannot be stolen.

Art in housing associations – tailored to the location

Each mural is adapted to the property's architecture, lighting, and the residents' wishes. I work closely with housing associations, administrators, and resident groups to find the expression that best suits the location.

This can be nature-inspired motifs, abstract forms, or a very specific theme that supports the property's identity. Regardless of the expression, the goal is the same: to create a stairwell that is not just a passage, but a part of the home.

Are you considering art in your stairwell?

If you are an administrator, a board member of a housing association, or responsible for common areas, consider getting a quote for a mural. A mural can be an excellent way to add something unique to your property.

Please feel free to contact me for a non-binding chat about the possibilities. Together, we can create an artistic expression that makes your stairwell a place you look forward to coming home to. The advantage of my murals is that they can easily be adapted to a budget, and customized to your specific stairwell.
