Atelier østerbro københavn galleri kunstgalleri

How does it go when you visit an artist's studio?

Visiting an artist's studio is different from an art gallery. In an art gallery there is always a nice exhibition and a gallerist to present the art. When you visit an artist's studio, there are not always paintings displayed on the walls. This is where the paintings are created, so you will probably meet the artist painting. You have the opportunity to experience the process, see half-finished works and experience the atmosphere in the studio with the music playing and clutter in the corners. At my place, the finished paintings are leaning against the wall and it is possible to leaf through them and hear my passionate story about the paintings. Most artists are happy to tell their story, and I usually say that you should preferably set aside half an hour for a visit, because when the talk goes, the time goes by.

Buy art directly from the artist

There is no expectation that you will buy anything when you visit the studio. You can easily just be curious and come and get an insight into the artist's work. Choosing the right painting can take time and you may have to see several studios and galleries before deciding which artist you want to buy a work from.

In my studio it is possible to buy the paintings directly from the artist. You are also welcome to borrow one or more works to take home, and try to see how it looks at your home. It can be nice to spend a few days feeling whether it is just right, and see how the painting changes with the light. I also have paintings exhibited in galleries both in Denmark and abroad. To see the paintings, contact the galleries I work with and search their websites. Paintings that are sold in the galleries, you cannot see on my website or in my studio.

Often there will be few customers visiting the studio at the same time. If you want to be sure that you are alone and that there is plenty of time, book an appointment for a showing. If you are the type of person who feels best when there are many people, so that you can more anonymously go and look and browse the paintings, then sign up for my newsletter or follow me on Instagram or Facebook and you will be invited when a few times a year we invite to Open Studio events in the studio.

I share a studio at Østerbro in Copenhagen with the artists Cecilie Westh and Christina Julsgaard.
