How high should the picture hang?
When hanging a picture above a sofa, there isn't a strict rule for how high it should be, but there are some guidelines. When you hang a picture above the sofa, its placement is crucial for how the room feels, and I'll give you a few tips here:

Large picture hanging above sofa
Height: If it's a large painting of 150x100 cm. or a painting of 110x180 cm. that you need to hang above a sofa, it will often look great if the bottom edge of the picture hangs approximately 15-25 cm above the sofa's backrest. This creates a sense of coherence between the sofa and the picture. Even if you have an extra-high wall behind the sofa, it will usually look good if you still hang the painting low. Remember that you are mostly sitting down when you look at the painting, and you will therefore have to look up a lot if the painting hangs high.
When considering a sofa area, interior design often creates a kind of island where the sofa, table, rug, painting, lamp, and possibly a plant come together in an oasis.
If you feel that the painting is too close to you when you sit on the sofa – this is especially true if the sofa has a narrow back – you can choose to pull the sofa 10-20 cm away from the wall, creating a bit of space behind it. This will both look good and feel better when you are sitting on the sofa, as you won't be as close to the painting and the wall.
• Centering: The picture can be centered above the sofa or adjusted slightly to one side if there is a lamp or plant that creates balance.

Small pictures hanging above sofa
Small pictures above a sofa should hang higher than a large picture. Before hanging the pictures, place the small pictures on the floor in front of the sofa to get a feel for the shape in which the pictures should hang. This will give you a good sense of how much space they will take up on the wall behind the sofa before you hang them.
