"Gilded" is a dark and dramatic painting — a painting about the night and what holds us together when darkness falls. The dark gray background with a faint brownish undertone gives the painting a deep and atmospheric weight, and dynamic abstractions in brown, black, beige and white move through the picture with a powerful and restless energy.

But amidst the darkness there is light. Stardust sprinkles through the picture, and golden cell shapes glow like the living elements that never completely disappear — even in the deepest night. It is nature's own resilience — the unquenchable spark of life.

My small female figure hangs in the darkness, clinging to a solid rock. It is a strong and honest picture — about those moments in life when you just hold on and wait for the storm to pass. The rock is the fixed point. That which does not give way. That which we all seek when life is at its most difficult.

The female figure recurs in many of my paintings. She is not a specific person but a voice — someone who observes and is part of the universal pattern between man and nature. In this painting she is vulnerable and strong at the same time.

I paint with acrylic paint from Golden on handmade canvases from Vindelev Blindrammefabrik and always finish with two layers of varnish that protects against sunlight and dust. The painting is stretched on a 2 cm deep blind frame and painted on the sides — it does not need framing but can be framed if desired.

The dark and golden color palette makes the painting perfect in interiors with depth and character — Nordic and Scandinavian homes with dark wood, black metal and natural stone. The elongated format works powerfully above a sideboard, in an entrance hall or as a striking side piece on a picture wall. The size 70x130 cm gives the elongated expression that creates direction and drama in the interior.
